In the early morning hours of Thursday, Nov. 20, firefighters across northern Emery County responded to a house fire in a Huntington neighborhood. Following a several-hour battle against the inferno, firefighters from the Elmo Fire Department, Huntington Fire Department, Cleveland Fire Department, and Castle Dale Fire Department were able to quell the blaze.
The fire, which occurred on 550 West, drew onlookers from around the block who waited with bated breath as firefighters performed their duties. This location also happened to be positioned on a hill overlooking the Huntington Cemetery, posing a challenge to first responders.
“This fire was a challenge as it poses a risk for the firefighters dealing with frozen waters,” said Chase Majors, Huntington City fire chief of the weather conditions which reached as low as 19 degrees, adding,” Also due to limited visibility and the terrain of the house, being on a hill with a very steep slope in the backyard.
Seven firetrucks and over 15 firefighters were present at the scene, manning jobs that ranged from hose duty to gearing up to extinguish the last embers inside the house. Initial looks are not good for the home, with half the exterior torched by the fire.
As for the cause and total damage of the blaze, Chief Majors explained,” Currently it’s still under investigation. So we’ll do a standard investigation with the State Fire Marshal’s office.”
At the time of writing, there are no confirmed injuries from the incident.
The investigation into this fire is ongoing, Castle Country Radio will provide updates as they become available.
