It’s with great sadness we say goodbye to our loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend. John Martin Lessar passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024 at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer.

John was born on November 5, 1942 in Price, Utah to Frank Carlos and Liberty Kokal Lessar. Dad was raised in Price and graduated from Carbon High and College of Eastern Utah, and shortly after, enlisted in the US Air force in 1963.

On April 11,1964, dad married the love of his life, Lynnette Holdaway, and spent 60 wonderful years together. Together they moved to Wichita Falls, TX, driving their 51’ Mercury.

While stationed in Texas they welcomed their first son, Jeff. Dad served his last two years in the service on the Tokyo, Japan U.S. Airbase. After his honorable discharge they moved back to Salt Lake City and began working as an officer for the Utah Fish & Game and was with them for 10 years. While in SLC they welcomed two more sons, Stephen and Troy.

In 1979 mom and dad decided it was time to move back to Price and dad began working with Price River Coal, and later retired from Utah Power & Light in 2001.

Dad loved golfing, fishing, ice fishing, hunting, camping and even played softball into his 70s; he could throw horseshoes like none other.

Dad loved spending time with his two brothers, prior to their passing. They could be found hunting, fishing, camping or simply just sitting on the back porch enjoying a beer.

He was a huge support of his three sons and you could usually find him chasing baseball most summers; very rarely was mom and dad not in the stands. Mom and dad enjoyed several cruises together, along with his trips to Wendover, and he wouldn’t turn down a good steak from Texas Roadhouse.

Dad was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus which he loved to be a part of.

Dad is survived by his loving wife, Lynnette; their three sons, Jeff (Amy) of West Jordan, Steve (Jolene) Price, Troy (Toni) Price; brothers-in-law, Gary Holdaway, Morris Flygre; sisters-in-law, JoAnne Lessar, Paula Flygre. John enjoyed being a grandpa and recently a great-grandpa. Up until dad got sick, he did his best to always show up to the grandkids’ school programs, ball games and special events.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Liberty Lessar; and two brothers, Gene and Tony Lessar.

The family would like to thank the Huntsman Cancer Institute, CNS, and all of the wonderful people who helped take dad to his treatments. We truly appreciate all of you.
