
The season got underway on Thursday evening for the Lady Dinos basketball squad when the Draper APA Eagles came to Price. Jacie Jensen’s 17 points were not enough as Carbon started the 2024-2025 season 0-1 after the 59-38 loss in front of the home crowd.
Last season the Dinos season came to an end in the semifinals to eventual State Champion Richfield and the Lady Dinos would have to settle for fourth place ending the season 19-8 overall 12-2 in region play and landing in the No. 3 spot in the final RPI of the season. Draper APA collected a 22-5 overall record going a perfect 12-0 in 2A’s Region 17 earning the No. 3 seed and falling to State Champion Kanab in the semifinals.
The Eagles and Dinos played pretty evenly in the first quarter with each team answering the bell when the other came calling Carbon would keep it within five points ending the quarter down 20-15. The second quarter was played even closer with the Lady Dinos holding Draper to 13 points in the quarter and scoring 11 of their own to cut the deficit to 33-26 at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room the Eagles would clamp down defensively on the Dinos limiting them to just 3 points in the quarter and adding 10 increasing their lead to 43-29 heading into the final eight minutes. The fourth was more Draper APA as they would pour it on adding 16 and closing out the Lady Dinos 59-38.
Samantha Kartchner and Aaliyah Baldwin each scored 27 for the Eagles to lead all scorers.
Jensen led the Dinos with 17 and added four rebounds, Blythe Bradford scored six with eight rebounds and Harley Hopes added four with five boards in the loss for the Dinos.
The Dinos will travel to Roosevelt on Tuesday to face the Union Cougars.
