The Lady Spartan basketball team closed out the first week of the season on the road at the Union Tournament. After earning a win over the host Union Cougars they turned their sights on the Uintah Utes for a Friday match-up where Emery was able to get a 34-32 win. They closed out the weekend coming out flat against North Summit and were handed a 47-29 loss.
Friday’s contest with Uintah was a test of wills and halves with the Utes getting a slight edge in the first half. Emery struggled early on to find their footing only coming up with six points in the first quarter and managing seven in the second as Uintah took a 19-13 lead into the locker room at the half.
Quarter three was a quiet one as well as Uintah could only put six points on the board and the Spartans stuck it out and added seven to their score to go into the fourth down by five 25-20.
After going back and forth for three quarters the Lady Spartans came out in the fourth looking to take control. They were able to hold the Utes to just seven and then doubled that to add 14 and earned the two-point win 34-32.
Jabry Sharp led the way for the Lady Spartans, scoring 10 points on four-of-four shooting from the field, she would also collect four steals. Katelyn Nielson added nine with four rebounds and Megan Stilson had five with four boards in the win.

Coming out in the second half North Summit would again hold the Lady Spartans to single-digit scoring in the third quarter outscoring them 14-5 and taking a 41-17 lead into the final eight minutes. In the fourth, Emery would turn the tables this time using their defense to hold North Summit to just six points while putting up 12 points cutting into the Braves’ lead but would still lose the game 47-29.
