In a bout for the ages, stations KARB Kickin’ Country and KRPX 95.3 the Peak went toe to toe in a heavyweight food drive. This food drive was done in collaboration with the Carbon and Emery Food Bank, which was selected as Castle Country Radio’s Charity of the Month for November.

Donation locations were placed across Carbon County at Castle Country Radio, Anytime Fitness and the Foodbank itself, with the trio also serving as sponsors for the event. The food drive was central to a contest between KARB and KRPX morning show personalities Dave Hocanson and Mallery Dunn for the coveted prize of a year of bragging rights. The contest ran from Monday, Nov. 4 to Monday, Dec. 2, giving each host a month to promote their cause.

The culmination of the drive occurred on Dec. 2, when the duo faced off one final time at the Foodbank to see which stations had earned the most donations. Dunn would win both the Castle Country Radio and Anytime fitness drop-off locations, accumulating 155 pounds of donated food. Hocanson on the other hand pulled 105 pounds from the two locations. Each candidate also received a $100 donation to their stations, with one dollar being equal to a pound of food, giving Dunn the early 255-205 advantage.

The difference maker in the contest proved to be the donations made at the food bank, where Hocanson received a healthy boost in weight from several frozen turkeys donated to the KARB bucket, totaling 255 pounds. Dunn would attempt to come back from this earth-shattering blow, answering with 142 pounds of food, but it was too little, too late, as Hocanson would win the contest with 460 pounds to 397 pounds.

“Kickin’ Country you came up big!” Exclaimed Hocanson following the reveal, adding,” I’m going to run with this for at least an hour.”

“Thank you so much to everyone who donated and supported and helped be a part of this wonderful holiday season. We appreciate everything our community does,” stated Sophia Jones from the food bank.

In total, 857 pounds of food were donated to the Food Bank. When asked about the drive, Dunn stated, “The real winner is the food bank,” a statement which was echoed by Hocanson.

Castle Country Radio would like to thank everyone in the community who participated, as well as extend thanks to both the Food Bank and Anytime Fitness for their contributions to the drive.
