Lady Spartan basketball slid to 2-4 this season on Tuesday when they traveled to face the Grantsville Cowboys. Grantsville entered the contest at 3-0 and put on a defensive clinic, holding Emery to single digits in each quarter. They earned their fourth win in a row, closing out the Spartans 63-17.
The Lady Spartans have earned road wins over Union and Uintah and are looking to get things rolling, as it is a long season.
Grantsville definitely came out as the aggressor on both ends of the court. They scored 18 points in the first quarter and defensively held the Lady Spartans to just 3 points. Moving into the second it was more Cowboys as they seemed to score at will adding another 17 to their total taking a 35-9 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
In the third, things didn’t get much better for Emery as Grantsville kept the scoring barrage going putting up another 20 points while holding the Spartans to just two in the quarter. The final eight minutes were just a formality as the Cowboys closed out the contest and Emery by the final score of 63-17. Grantsville’s Baylee Lowder led all scorers with 15 in the contest.
Katelyn Nielson and Aleeyah Cowley each scored six for the Spartans, Megan Stilson scored four and Skylee Guymon had one in the loss.
Emery will be back in the friendly confines of the Spartan Center on Thursday when they welcome the San Juan Broncos to town. The Broncos come to Castle Dale with a 3-2 record.
