
With the wrestling season underway, the Emery Spartans spent the weekend in Panguitch for a two-day tournament. With over 29 teams taking part, Emery ended the matches with a fifth-place finish overall.
Host team Panguitch claimed the top spot overall with 693.5 points, and Crimson Cliffs finished second with 580.5. San Juan finished third with 523.5 points, Cedar City (497.0) and Emery (453.0) rounded out the top five.
Dixon Peacock was the top finisher for the Spartans claiming a second-place finish at 126 pounds going 7-1 over the weekend, taking second when he fell to Boston Thompson of Milford in the first-place match. Ty Christiansen, who went 7-1 in the 113-pound class took a win over Carbon’s Kayden Smith to finish third.
Corbin Jensen at 138 pounds went 5-3 and fell to fourth place after losing to Kooper Keenan of Crimson Cliffs in the third-place match. Hazen Meccariello went 7-2 at 175 pounds taking a fifth-place finish with his win by pin in his final match over Hagan Olsen from North Sevier, and Joshua Howard would also claim fifth in the 285-pound class, going 6-3 and winning his final match over Reegan Talker of Page by pin.
The Spartans will be back on the mat on Wednesday when they travel to take on the Manti Templars.
