Coming off of a loss five nights ago to Uintah, the Lady Dinos basketball squad traveled to Nephi to open Region 12 play against the Juab Wasps. Carbon had strong first and third quarters but let up in quarters two and four and Juab would take advantage getting the 51-31 win handing the Dinos their third loss of the season.
Carbon’s lone win this season came on November 26 in Roosevelt when they defeated Union 43-41. Last week they welcomed the Utes to Price, falling 43-36.
Both teams came out in the first quarter playing almost even with the Lady Dinos taking a slight advantage 11-10. In the second, Juab would turn up both their offense and their defense as they added 12 points to their total and held Carbon to just two, as both teams headed to the locker rooms at halftime with the Wasps on top 22-13.
The Dinos used halftime to regroup coming out on fire and going toe-to-toe with Juab as each team scored 14 in the third going into the final quarter with the Wasps still on top 36-27. In the fourth, Carbon could not find a way to create offense as Juab held them to four points while the Wasps added 15 more to their total to take the 51-31 win.
Juab’s Hallie Hall led all scorers with 21 in the game.
Jacie Jensen scored 14 for the Lady Dinos, while Bailey Johnson added six, and Sage Vea had four in the loss.
Carbon will travel to St. George to compete over three days in the Southern Classic.
Their first game will be against Liberty High School from Henderson, Nevada on Thursday.
The Lady Dinos will return home to face the Richfield Wildcats on December 17.
