
On Tuesday night the Green River Pirate boy’s basketball team found themselves on the road in Panguitch to face the Bobcats. Panguitch would use a big third to close the door on the Pirates and earn the 83-62 win, dropping Green River to 2-3.
Green River was coming off back-to-back losses at the hands of Milford and Tabiona, and Panguitch, on the other hand, was coming off a 55-42 win over the Emery Spartans on Saturday night, moving them to 5-0.
The Bobcats scored 21 points in the first quarter, while the Pirates scored 12, as both teams moved into the second. Green River came out and scored 15, outscoring Panguitch by three. The Bobcats held an edge of 33-27 going into the locker room at halftime.
Panguitch reloaded at the break as they jumped out in the third quarter and exploded for 27 and on the defensive side of the court, held Green River to only seven with both teams headed to the fourth and the Bobcats on top 60-34.
The Pirates had one more burst in them to try and take control and they came out throwing up 28 points in the quarter, unfortunately, Panguitch had built a big enough lead that they could withstand the Green River barrage holding on and earning the 85-63 victory.
Rolando Anguiano had 21 points for the Pirates. Jason Hernandez poured in 20 and Antonio Macias had eight in the loss.
Green River will get back to the court on Friday when they will take part in the 1A preview at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
In their opening game, they are set to take on Piute.
