Coming off a 20-point victory, the Carbon Dinos were looking to carry that momentum into their region opener against the Juab Wasps. Through three quarters the Dinos kept it close with the Wasps, but an explosive final frame elevated Juab to an 82-52 win.
The Wasps would seize momentum immediately after the opening tip, going on a quick 8-0 run. Carbon would call a timeout, battle back, and end the quarter only down six, 14-8.
Both offenses heated up in the second quarter, with Juab scoring 17 points and Carbon keeping pace with 13. This scoring effort was greatly aided by junior Ty Mortensen, who went into the half with six points and the Dinos down 31-21.
Coming out of the halftime break, both teams would find their offensive stride and explode for 20+ points. For the Dinos, it was senior Cannon Mortensen, who effectively crashed the boards and was rewarded with several putback points. Again Juab would outpace Carbon, scoring 27 points to the Dino’s 22, making it a 58-43 ballgame.
The Wasps would dominate the fourth, holding Carbon to single digits while putting up 24; a bulk of which came courtesy of a three-point barrage led by junior guard Gabe Settle, who finished with 20 points on the evening and led Juab to an 82-52 victory.
Leading the Dinos in scoring for a second straight game was Cannon Mortensen who ended with nine points. Ty Mortensen finished with eight and junior Carter Warburton had seven.
