The Emery Spartans joined six schools and 10 teams at the annual Dave Smith Memorial Duals, hosted by the Carbon Dinos, Friday and Saturday at Carbon High School.

Led by Devon Byars, Dixon Peacock, and Xavier Nelson, the Spartans wrapped up a fifth-place finish, falling just behind the host school Carbon. Monticello earned first-place, defeating second-place Maple Mountain. San Juan finished in third, followed by Carbon and Emery.

Byars dominated the competition at 190 pounds, finishing the two-day event a perfect 9-0. Dixon Peacock matched Byars as he finished 9-0 at 126 pounds. Nelson, Boden Christman, and Hazen Meccariello also finished unscathed competing in fewer matches.

The Spartans will prepare for a busy week that begins Tuesday with a road trip to Cedar City to meet Canyon View. The team will then travel to Richfield on Wednesday, before wrapping up the calendar year at the Christmas Clash on Friday and Saturday at Salt Lake Academy.
