The Lady Dino basketball squad entered the Southern Classic in St. George over the weekend riding a two-game losing streak. Carbon would play in three games in as many days earning their only win on Saturday against Orem and being handed losses by Liberty and Hunter.

The opening game of the weekend was against Liberty a team from Henderson Nevada. Carbon would play well in the first half but Liberty took control in the fourth earning the 52-48 win.

The Lady Dinos played well in the first half coming out in the first quarter and taking a 13-10 lead and then went into the second putting up another 13 and this time holding the Patriots to just seven and would carry a 26-17 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was another that was played tightly as the Lady Dinos would collect 12 and allow Liberty 13 as they headed to the final quarter with Carbon holding a 38-30 advantage. The Patriots used the fourth to make their move, as they put 22 on the board and allowed 10 points, while Liberty earned the 52-48 win.

Bailey Curtis and Jacie Jensen would each score 11 in the contest with Curtis grabbing nine rebounds and Jensen adding four rebounds, and a pair of assists and steals. Madi Ferguson had seven with four rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals.

The next game would match the Dinos up with the Hunter Wolverines from West Valley. This game went back-and-forth with Hunter taking the advantage in the fourth earning the 47-41 win.

The first half was really a tale of two quarters with the Wolverines taking control of the opening quarter as they outscored the Lady Dinos 13-7 and then in the second it was the Lady Dinos taking control and reversing the outcome as Carbon would score 13 and held Hunter to seven and both teams went to the locker rooms tied at 20-20.

In the third, the Lady Dinos took charge finding offense and scoring 17 holding the Wolverines to 12 in the quarter as Carbon took a 37-32 lead in the final eight minutes. Hunter would use the fourth to shut down the Dinos holding them to just four points and taking charge to put 15 on the board allowing them to take the lead and earn the 47-41 win.

Jensen led the way for Carbon scoring 22, grabbing five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Bailey Johnson added six with five steals, a pair of boards, and an assist, and Blythe Bradford had six with four rebounds and a pair of steals in the loss.

The final contest of the weekend for the Lady Dinos came against the Orem Tigers.  Carbon took advantage in the second quarter and did what they had to do to maintain their lead to earn the two-point win 47-45.

Carbon and Orem played dead even in the first quarter as each team put up seven, Carbon would make their move in the second quarter. The Lady Dinos would put up 13 as they turned up their defense a bit to hold the Tigers to five in the second and Carbon would take a 20-12 lead to the locker rooms at halftime.

After the half, each team came out determined to take back the game as they battled through the third with each team scoring 16 and setting the stage for a fourth-quarter showdown for the win with the Dinos still holding a 36-28 lead. Orem looked at the final quarter as an opportunity to mount a comeback and earn a win as they would outscore Carbon 17-11, but the Lady Dinos found a way to hang on and take a 47-45 win.

Jensen would lead the Dinos again with 14, collecting three steals and a rebound along the way. Saren Nelson had eight with two rebounds a steal and assist, and Johnson scored six points with two rebounds and a steal in the victory.

Carbon will be back on the court when the Richfield Wildcats come to Price.

Game time is set for 7:00 p.m..
