A brilliant second-half comeback performance fell just short as the Emery Lady Spartans dropped an important Region 12 game to the Canyon View Falcons 62-60 Thursday night in Cedar City.

Trailing 37-24 at the end of the first half, the Lady Spartans slowly chipped away at the double-digit deficit. With the lead trimmed to seven in the fourth quarter, Emery outscored Canyon View 17-12 over the final eight minutes but could not secure the road win.

Katelyn Nielson was once again a force for Emery in the post, posting a game-high 22 points in the loss. KaBree Gordon gave the Lady Spartans a boost on the perimeter, scoring 10 points, six of which came from beyond the arc. Addie Hurst finished with nine points and Kali Jensen and Saige Curtis each scored six.

Emery entered Thursday’s game looking for a second straight region win after topping Manti on Tuesday night. Canyon View used the win to get back on track after falling to Juab 55-44 earlier in the week.

Kambree Potter was lethal from beyond the perimeter, scoring 15 of her team-high 17 points from the three-point line. Maya Nichols knocked down three perimeter jumpers as she posted a solid 13 points for the Falcons. Maylee Spencer also hit double figures, finishing with 12 points.

The Lady Spartans now sit 2-2 in Region 12 action and 5-8 overall on the season. Thursday’s game was the last for the 2024 calendar year. The team will now head into a lengthy Christmas break.

Emery will return to the court on January 7 at home against the Carbon Lady Dinos.
