The Emery wrestling teams traveled to Herriman last weekend to compete in the Christmas Clash. Out of the 48 teams on the boy’s side of the mat the Emery Spartans finished in 20th place, and on the girl’s side, they landed in 55th out of 68 teams that competed.
For the boys, Dixon Peacock wrestled at 126 pounds going 3-2 and taking third place with wins over Trent Whitely from Spring Creek by a pin, he also took a win over Uintah’s Parker Peterson by pin and claimed another win by pin over RJ Hervias of Westlake. Corbin Jensen at 138 pounds went 2-2 earning wins over Tekoa Stotts of American Fork by decision, and gathered another win over Brighton’s Leonardo Duncan by technical fall.
In the 175-pound class, Boden Christman finished 2-2 with wins over Raiden Nielson of Logan by pin and then collected another victory over Dallin Davidson of Skyridge by pin. The weekend was very successful for Devon Byars who collected a 6-1 record earning a third-place finish in the 190-pound class. Byars earned wins by pin in five of his matches against Andrew Kifer of Carbon, Joey Adams of Lone Peak, Collin Stewart of Mountain Ridge, Stephen Bean from Lone Peak, and Michael Christensen of Pleasant Grove. He would win another match by forfeit from Diesel Wirfs of Taylorsville.
Joshua Howard wrestled in the 285-pound weight class going 2-2 in his matches earning wins over Hudson Smith of Bonneville by pin, and claimed a victory by pin over Brighton’s Semisi Uai.
For the Lady Spartans, Dazi Thatcher was the only competitor going 3-2 taking all three victories by pin over Emry Miller of Summit Academy, Meghan Butt of Pleasant Grove, and Adriana Sierra of Canyon View.
Emery will be back on the mats on January 3 & 4 when they travel to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield for the Winter Classic.
