Carol Marie Thayn Bryner, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on December 26, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on Christmas Day, 1940, in Price, Utah, Carol lived a life rich in love, community, and creativity.
Carol was the youngest of seven children born to Albert and Laura Donant Thayn. She grew up on the family farm in Coal Creek surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
During high school, she was an ace student and was chosen for her scholarship, leadership, and character to attend Utah Girls State. After graduating from high school in 1959, Carol attended Stevens-Henager School of Business. She spent most of her career at Zions Bank, where she became a well-known and loved figure in the community, working diligently for twelve years until her retirement. She married Lynn P. Bryner, they had three kids together and were later divorced.
Carol’s life was a tapestry of talents and interests. She was an avid bowler, loved playing the ukulele in a band she proudly named “Silver Strings,” and engaged in many activities at the Senior Center including line dancing. Carol’s love for travel took her to memorable destinations such as New Zealand, Australia, and Alaska, from which she collected bells as keepsakes.
A skilled craftswoman, Carol crocheted beautiful blankets, Christmas tree snowflakes, doilies, and hats; which she generously donated to cancer patients through the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation Services. She also dedicated countless hours to clipping and collecting over half a million dollars in coupons, which she sent to military families. Her canning, crafting, and love for the Utah Jazz were well-known among her family and friends. She gifted each of her children, grandchildren, and even great-grand pets with handmade Christmas stockings that the whole family treasures.
Carol is survived by her children, Carolyn Bryner, Matt (Joan) Bryner, and Travis (DeDe) Bryner; her grandchildren, Laura (Kyle) Dean, Thomas Dorrance, Megan (Josh) Schooley, Andy (Alyssa) Bryner, Zac (Shalyn) Bryner, Garett (Adri) Hreinson, Nathan Bryner, Jack Dorrance, and Corbin Bryner; her siblings, Helen Siaperas and Lee Thayn; and her great-granddaughter, Kelley Dean. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Leon, Elmer, Raymond, and Paul Thayn; grandson, Jason Dorrance; and great-grandson, Kolton Dean.
Carol will be remembered for her boundless love, her vibrant spirit, and her dedication to family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and joy that will continue to inspire those who knew her. We will miss our Christmas Carol.
