The Emery Spartan wrestling squad traveled to Richfield to participate in the Utah Winter Classic at the Sevier Valley Center. With over 30 schools competing in the event, the Spartans ended the tournament with an 11th place.

Out of 12 wrestlers, the Spartans earned seven top-10 finishes, none bigger than Joshua Howard’s second-place finish at 285 pounds. Howard finished the event going 2-4, making it to the first-place match, where he lost by pin to Jesus Lopez of the American Leadership Academy.

Dixon Peacock would collect a fifth-place finish at 126 pounds finishing with a 3-2 mark. Peacock claimed fifth, with a victory over Manti’s Durke Larsen by an injury default. Devon Byars finished sixth with a 2-4 overall record but fell to Treyton Harris of Springville in the match for fifth place.

Boden Christman finished in seventh with a 2-2 record and took a victory over Ethan Hawks from Springville. Corbin Jensen (3-3) and Xavier Nelson (2-4) each finished in eighth place in their weight classes. Ryder Rollins went 4-2 and claimed tenth place in the 120-pound class.

Emery will welcome South Sevier to the Spartan Center on Wednesday.
