Looking to end the week with a win, the Carbon Dinos took the long trip down I-15 to Cedar City on Friday, Jan. 10, to face the Canyon View Falcons. The Falcons would control the game from start to finish as they pulled away for a 79-37 victory.
The opening quarter would be the most evenly played off the ballgame, as Carbon would battle with Canyon View through the frame. Senior Cannon Mortensen started the scoring with two quick three-pointers as did Carter Warburton which helped the Dinos keep the game close heading into the second with the Falcons leading only 26-19.
The wheels would fall off in the second period however, as Canyon View outscored the Dinos 20-7, elevating the Falcons to a 46- 26 advantage going into the half. This offensive burst was led by Ty Attig, who scored 21 points and Felps Sanders, who scored 16.
Thanks to defensive adjustments by the players and head coach Taylor Brower during the break, Carbon was able to hold the Falcons to only 13 points in the third period. Maxwell Carlson would do a bulk of the scoring for the Dinos as they headed into the fourth quarter 59-32.
Canyon View would again dominate in the final frame, outsourcing Carbon 20-5 in the final eight minutes as they waltzed to a 79-37 region win.
For the Dinos, Carlson would lead the way in scoring with 12 on the night, Cannon Mortensen would have 11 and Warburton ended with six as did Ty Mortensen.
