
The Carbon Dino swim team welcomed high school teams from around the area to the Last Chance Invitational on Saturday at the Price City Pool. Richfield earned the top spot in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, with the Carbon boys finishing second and the Lady Dinos finishing third.
This was the final regular-season meet, as the Region 12 Championships will take place in Cedar City on Friday.
The Richfield boys finished with 449 points with Carbon right behind with 329.5. Gunnison (260), Emery (240), Grand (213.5), and Delta (118) rounded out the rest of the field.
Carbon claimed second-place finishes in all three relays. In the 200 medley, the team of James Tullis, Ky Earl, Logan Kranendonk, and Mason Engar competed. The 200 free team included Tullis, Engar, Kranendonk, and Leland Kepsel who was also part of the 400 free team along with Bracken Hanson, Dallin Humes, and Caden Steele.
Engar and Hanson collected first-place finishes individually for the Dinos. Engar took the 500 free with a time of 5:28.12, he also finished third in the breaststroke. Hanson claimed victory in the 200 free turning in a time of 2:05.81 and finished just behind Engar in the 500 free in second place.
Kranendonk earned a second-place finish in the 200 free and completed the 500 free in third as Carbon would take the top three spots in that race. Tullis finished the 100-yard backstroke in second place and would go to take fourth in the 200 free.
Kepsel would earn a third-place finish in the 100-fly and collected a sixth-place finish in the 50 free. Earl ended the breaststroke in seventh, Jared Bryson also earned a seventh-place finish in the 100 free, and Steele collected a pair of tenth-place finishes in the 200 and 100 free events.
Richfield would also take the top spot on the girls’ side of the pool with 377 points, Grand was in second with 348. Carbon came in third with 324 points. Emery (224.5), Gunnison (165.5), and Delta (99) comprised the remainder of the field.
The Lady Dinos took part in two of the three relays, taking second in both. The team of Evie Halk, Lily Thayn, Maya Bower, and Lisa King competed in the 200 medley, and Thayn, Bower, King, and Rachel Blackburn swam in the 200 free.
Halk collected a pair of first-place finishes turning in a time of 6:14.30 in the 500 free and then in the backstroke with her time of 1:13.08.
King and Thayn each had a pair of second-place finishes. King in the 50 free and 100 free and Thayn on the 200 IM and the 100 fly.
Blackburn earned a second-place finish in the 200 free and finished fifth in the 100 free. Bower claimed a third-place finish in the 500 free and then finished fourth in the 200 IM.
Aylen Lyman took sixth in the breaststroke and came in seventh in the 100 free. Avy Atwood earned a seventh-place finish in the 200 free and an eighth-place in the backstroke.
Miley Hansen finished ninth in the 200 free, and tenth in the backstroke and Brynlee Tullis finished tenth in the 50 free.
The Regular season has come to an end for the Dino swimmers and this Friday the post-season starts with the Region 12 Championships in Cedar City.
