The Lady Spartans welcomed the Richfield Wildcats to the Spartan Center on Tuesday evening. The Lady Spartans were riding a four-game win streak. The Wildcats and the Spartans always are entertaining to watch but Emery would come up on the short end this time taking the 50-42 loss.

During the four-game win streak, the Lady Spartans registered wins over Carbon, North Sanpete, Juab, and Delta. With the loss, Emery slides to 9-9 overall and 6-3 in Region 12 play and they sit in the No. 8 spot in the latest RPI.

The Lady Spartans came out in the first quarter and went to work putting up 11 in the quarter earning a slight edge going into the second 11-9. The Wildcats came out in the second quarter looking to create some distance between themselves and Emery as they collected 12 points and held the Spartans to nine the two teams went to the locker room with the Wildcats up by one 21-20.

In the second half, Richfield would quietly build their lead widening it to 32-30 heading into the fourth quarter. The final eight minutes were a battle but as with every contest someone has to win and someone has to lose. Richfield added 18 more as Emery couldn’t quite close the gap taking a 50-42 loss, their ninth of the season.

Katelyn Nielson scored 20 for Emery, pulling down 10 rebounds and gathering two steals. Kali Jensen had five with two boards an assist and a steal. Kabree Gordon and Megan Stilson each had four points and four rebounds in the loss.

The Spartans will be back on the floor Thursday when they welcome the No. 10 Manti Templars to the Spartan Center

Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
