
Green River basketball was coming off a big win over Pinnacle at home and was looking to continue their 10-game winning streak when the Monument Valley Cougars came to the gym in Green River, they amazingly did that taking the 114-29 win and moved to 13-5 overall.
The last time they were on the court, Green River collected a win over Pinnacle 79-49, with the win over Monument Valley the Pirates are in a great position to enter postseason play 13-5 overall and 5-0 in region play Green River also holds the No. 7 spot in the latest RPI.
The Pirates had already wrapped the game up when the clock hit zeros after the opening period and they held a 35-0 lead. Green River wouldn’t let up in the second outscoring the Cougars 28-6, as they would take a 63-6 lead going to the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter was more of the same as Green River was relentless putting up another 33 points and holding Monument Valley to only 7 as the two teams would head to the final eight minutes. The fourth was a formality as both teams knew what the outcome was going to be. The Cougars scored more points in the quarter than they had the entire game combined, but the Pirates would cruise to a 114-29 win.
Jason Hernandez put up 29 in the game collecting four rebounds eight assists, and five steals for the Pirates. Rolando Anguiano added 25 with seven rebounds and five assists, and Antonio Macias had 16 with 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and five steals in the victory.
The Pirates will be on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Monticello to face the No. 6 Buckaroo (10-5). January 17 these two teams hooked up with Green River coming away with the 71-57 win.
Green River will be back home to face Whitehorse on Friday. Gametime is set for 5:30 p.m..
