The Emery Spartan swim teams traveled to Cedar City for the Region 12 Championships on Friday. Though the host team Canyon View earned the top spot in both divisions, the Spartans were able to swim their way to second place in the final meet before the State Championships next weekend.

For the boys, it was the Canyon View Falcons claiming first place with 444 points, and Emery finished second with 405. Richfield finished third with 370, Carbon ended in fourth with 258. Manti (162), North Sanpete (122), and Delta (79) made up the remainder of the field.

Emery would finish in the top two in a pair of relays taking a first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:34.39, and second place in the 200 medley.

Individual honors went to Thomas Black for earning a first-place finish in the backstroke with a time of 1:00.76. Trek Petersen earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM. Parker Jensen finished second in the 50 free with Adam Olsen coming in third, Jensen also took second in the breaststroke. Reve Mason claimed a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly for the Spartans.

Canyon View also claimed the top spot in the girl’s division with 559 points, Emery took second with 340. Carbon claimed a third place finish with 292 points followed by Richfield with 274. North Sanpete (247), Manti (87), and Delta (58) comprised the rest of the field.

Emery claimed a pair of second-place finishes in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Individually, Illyria Mason earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 50 free and the backstroke, and Brooklyn O’Neil finished third in the breaststroke.

The season will come to an end on February 7 & 8 at Brigham Young University the site of the 3A State Championships for swimming.
