Both Spartan wrestling squads were on the road for the divisional round. The boy’s team traveled to Kamas for the “A ” Divsionals that took place at South Summit High School, and the Lady Spartans were in Nephi at Juab High. The boy’s squad qualified 11 Spartans to continue to state while the Lady Spartans had all four wrestlers finish in eighth place or better to punch their tickets.

Region 12’s own CanyonView earned the divisional crown with 305  points, and host team South Summit finished second with 287. Union (275.5), Grantsville (175.5), and Emery (117.5) rounded out the top five. Manti, Ben Lomond, Providence Hall, and Ogden completed the rest of the field.

Dixon Peacock at 126 pounds earned a second-place finish going 2-1 and falling in the first-place match to Durke Larsen of Manti by sudden fall. Ty Christiansen at 113 pounds finished in third going 3-1 and winning his third-place match over Beckam Bell by pin. At 190-pounds Devon Byars also earned a third-place going 3-1 and winning his final match by injury default over Grantsville’s Traicer Clark.

Others who qualified include Ryder Rollins at 120, Ryan Collard at 126, Dayton Farley at 132, Rayden Ewell at 138, Quirt Payne at 144, Hazen Meccariello at 175 pounds, Sam Mesler at 175, and Joshua Howard at 285.

Grantsville earned the top spot in the girl’s side with 270.0 points, and Juab finished second with 216.5. Carbon (118), Manti (79.5), and Providence Hall (66.5) made up the rest of the top five. Emery finished sixth, and Morgan, Summit Academy, and Delta comprised the rest of the field.

All four Lady Spartans qualified for state. Shalice Fuentes finished in fourth place at 125 pounds going 2-2. Dazi Thatcher went 2-2 also finishing in fourth at 170 pounds, and Karen Whitmore 1-2 at 190 pounds to take fourth place. Annzlie Bell finished in sixth place with a 1-2 record at 140 pounds.

The two squads will get back to work for the State Championships next week on February 12 & 13 at Utah Valley University.
