As part of its ongoing effort to connect the campus to the community, Utah State University Eastern will host magician/comedian Micheal Kent in a show on Monday, Feb. 24, that will be enjoyed by students and the public alike.

To discuss the show and the university’s efforts to engage the community, Campus Life/Housing Director Eric Curwen joined the KOAL newsroom to provide an in-depth look at what attendees can expect.

“USU Eastern, especially lately, has been focused on trying to get out to the community more and get the community more involved with our campus and what we’re doing. So one way we’re doing that in campus life is trying to come up with more of an event series,” explained Curwen. “And we thought we’d start first with the magician, see how this sits with the community and how many people plug into the event and what’s happening.”

Speaking on the talent of Kent, Curwen discussed what the process of booking the magician entailed,” We have opportunities to plug into a network of campus activities and different campuses that have invited different performers and magicians and things. He stood out because, one, he looked like he was good with families.” He continued,” The second thing that we looked at is, has he been invited back to campuses and different places? And they’ve invited him multiple times because he’s done such a good show and has been such a hit with people.”

In terms of cost, the event is free for current USUE students. Ages 3-12 are $9, ages 13 and up are $13 and children under three are free if they sit on a parent’s lap. A family ticket package is also available for $30 which includes two adult and two child tickets.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Curwen then talked about what wowed him about Kent and inspired him to book the magician,” In his videos, as we were watching, he seemed to resonate with the crowd. He was funny. The people were laughing at his jokes. He had good jokes, and it was clean, which was another focus of ours. We want it to be clean because we want to bring families. We want the community involved. Of course, our focus is students. We want student involvement there, but with this, it’s broader. We wanted to make sure that he can resonate with all age groups and people there.”

In closing, Curwen stated,” Come join us. I think this is going to be a great show for all families and little kids. I have little kids at home that I think will resonate well with this, and I hope that everybody will come and be part of the fun and the magic of that night.”

USU Eastern’s presentation of magician/comedian Micheal Kent will be held in the Geary Theatre on Monday, Feb. 24. For more information or to purchase tickets, you can visit the event’s page here.
