The regular season came to a close on Thursday for the Lady Dino basketball squad on the road in Mount Pleasant the home of the North Sanpete Hawks. Carbon was looking to complete the season sweep and close out on a high note, unfortunately, that wouldn’t happen as they fell to the Hawks in overtime 52-48.

When these two teams met up on January 14, Carbon came away with the 55-48 win in front of their home crowd, that would not be the case this time as the game was close and the Hawks needed overtime to finish off the Dinos, who now sit at 6-17 and 4-10 in Region 12 play.

In the opening period, neither team could find any offense as it was slow going for both, with North Sanpete taking a small lead 6-5 heading into the second quarter. Both teams would open up their offenses with Carbon leading the way but North Sanpete kept the pace as both teams went to the locker room at halftime tied at 22-22.

The third quarter belonged to the Hawks as they doubled up the Lady Dinos holding them to just six points while putting up 12 of their own to take a 34-28 lead into the fourth. The final eight minutes of regulation gave Carbon the chance to pull even with North Sanpete and perhaps even gather the win, with 20 seconds left in the fourth Jacie Jensen would go to the line making both free throws. North Sanpete would go down and put one in the basket to make it 39-37. After a Dino time-out and with five seconds remaining, Jensen put up a shot followed the miss, and released the shot just as time ran out tying the game at 39 and sending it into overtime.

In the overtime period, North Sanpete would get the edge and Carbon would come right back even taking the lead at one point, but in the end, the home crowd put the Hawks over the top as they earned the 52-48 win.

Jensen led the Dinos with 21, Bailey Curtis added 10 and Sage Vea scored six in the loss.

Now they wait until Saturday when the Utah High School Activities Association will release the final RPI rankings along with the bracket for the State Tournament which will begin at home sites on February 11.

The State Championships will take place February 24-26 at Utah Valley University.
