Spartan swimmers closed out the season at Brigham Young University over the weekend with the State Championships. A season that started clear back in November came down to two days in the pool, and at the end of it all the Emery boys found themselves with a fourth-place finish and the Lady Spartans ended the tournament in 11th place.

Judge Memorial earned the top spot in the boys’ division with 366 points, Canyon View was in second with 267.5.  Ogden (206), Emery (175.5), and Union (169.5) rounded out the top five.

In relays, the Spartans earned a pair of top-three finishes and a seventh-place finish. The team of Thomas Black, Parker Jensen, Trek Petersen, and Adam Olsen swam to a second-place finish in the 200 free and a third in the 200 medley. In the 400 free, Tyler Daley, Reve Mason, Jacob Morris, and Jamison Christiansen earned seventh.

Individually, Petersen earned a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Jensen earned a fourth in the breaststroke and a sixth in the 50 free. Black had a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, Mason earned an eighth-place finish in the 100 fly, and Olsen went ninth in the 100 free.

The Judge Memorial Bulldogs earned top honors in the girl’s division as well with 382 points, Canyon View also finished second with 275 points. Ogden (204), Union (159), and Richfield (152) round out the top five. Emery finished in 11th with 92 points.

The Lady Spartans earned three top-ten finishes in relays as the team of Illyria Mason, Brooklyn O’Neil, Hallie Frandsen, and Jessie Childs took seventh in the 200 medley. Emma Grimm joined Mason, Frandsen, and Childs for a seventh-place finish in the 200 free, and Annie Johansen and Hadley Meccariello were joined by Grimm and O’Neil for a tenth-place finish in the 400 free.

Mason was the only Spartan to earn a top-ten finish getting a pair in the 50 free finishing sixth and the 100-yard backstroke taking seventh.
