The wrestling season ended on Saturday at Utah Valley University, where the 3A State Championships were held. A dozen Lady Dinos took part and at the end of the tournament, six walked away with top finishes for Carbon.
Region 12 member Canyon View claimed first place with 246 points, and Grantsville finished second with 244. Juab (214), Union (137), and Richfield (101.5) made up the rest of the top five. Carbon was just on the outside with 101 points, finishing sixth.
A trio of Lady Dinos earned second-place finishes, starting in the 100-pound class with freshman Kallie Lefler. Lefler ended the weekend with a 2-1 mark, winning her quarterfinal and semifinal matches and receiving a berth in the first-place match to take on Atti Nielson from Juab. The two battled it out, with Nielson taking the win by major decision, 9-1.
Sophomore Alizah Trostle also earned a 2-1 record in the 145-pound weight class finishing in second as well. Trostle made her way to the first-place match and would face Samantha Reynolds of the Juab Wasps. Trostle would fall in the match by pin.
Rickelle Collins, a junior put a cap on her tremendous season with a second-place finish at 170 pounds. Collins advanced to the first-place match with victories by pin in both the quarterfinals and the semifinals to face Canyon View’s Adriana Sierra who would take the win by major decision, 16-6.
Senior Emma Parker wrestling at 125 pounds ended her time with the Lady Dinos with a third-place finish. Falling in the semifinal round she would make her way back to the third-place match to face Haedyn Herren of Grantsville, taking the major decision win, 19-6.
Freshman Farrah Parker lost her quarterfinal match putting her into the consolation rounds and was forced to wrestle her way back to the fifth-place match against fellow Dino Chloe Parker, a junior. Farrah earned the victory over Chloe in a 5-4 decision landing her in fifth and Chloe in sixth.
