Over the weekend another winter sport closed out its season, girl’s wrestling, at Utah Valley University in Orem. Emery sent four wrestlers in the girl’s division Shalice Fuentes at 125 pounds, Annzlie Bell at 140 pounds, Dazi Thatcher at 170 pounds, and Karen Whitmore at 190 pounds. Thatcher came away with a fifth-place finish.

Canyon View earned the top spot with 246 points with Grantsville finishing second with 244. Juab (214), Union (137), and Richfield made up the top five. Emery finished 12th out of 16 teams with 18 points.

Thatcher,  a senior, earned wins in her first two matches, falling to eventual State Champion Adriana Sierra of Canyon View in the semifinals and had to work her way back to the fifth place match where she defeated Meletilini Matakaiongo of Canyon View by medical forfeit.
