
On Saturday, the Green River Pirates closed out their regular season by welcoming the Caprock Academy Eagles to their home. The Pirates closed the regular season on a 16-game win streak, taking care of the Eagles 59-36.
Earning the win on Saturday put the Pirates at 18-5 overall for the regular season. It also put them in the No. 6 spot of the final RPI released by the Utah High School Activities Association on Monday.
The game with Caprock started quietly, as Green River held a slight lead at the end of the first quarter, 11-8. In the second quarter, the Eagles came alive, doubling up the Pirates using their offense and defense, scoring 10 and holding Green River to five in the quarter. They took an 18-16 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Pirates found their offense putting up 26, holding the Eagles to nine, and retaking the lead 44-27 as they moved to the final eight minutes. In the fourth, the Pirates were looking to close out the Eagles and did just that, outscoring them once again 17-9 and taking the victory 59-36.
Rolando Anguiano led the way for the Pirates with 19 points, grabbing four rebounds, handing out three assists, and collecting six steals. Jason Alexander added 15 with three boards, a pair of assists, and three steals, and Antonio Macias had nine with four rebounds and five steals in the win.
As they secured the No. 6 spot, they also earned a first-round bye and will face Bryce Valley (10-14, No.11) at Richfield High School on Wednesday, February 26, at 8:30 p.m., a win there, and they will face Milford (20-4, No. 3) at the Sevier Valley Center the next day.
