James “Jimmy John” Nickolas Callor Catona passed away surrounded by family on February 16th, 2025 at the age of 73. He was born on May 5th, 1951 in Price, Utah to Anthony Callor, Jr. and Mary Marian Capece.
Jimbo spent his early years in Kenilworth, before settling in Helper, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a dedicated athlete in his youth, playing for the championship-winning Little League team and continuing his passion for sports in high school where he excelled in football, track, and wrestling at Carbon High School. After graduating in 1969, Jimmy began his career as a coal miner, working and fire bossing at various mines in Carbon and Emery County. In 1985, he opened Jim’s Auto on Bryner Street, where he served the Helper community for over 40 years, providing exceptional service to local residents and family members. If you were fortunate enough to be a customer, Jimmy could recall every detail about your vehicle and the specific parts he used.
In March of 1993, Jimmy had the distinct honor of speaking with President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore, sharing his story and contributing to the passage of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Outside of work, Jimmy loved shooting, four-wheeling, and baking Italian Christmas cookies with his wife, Annette. He often entertained friends and family by speaking in Italian, even if they couldn’t understand him. Jimmy proudly referred to himself as the “Italian Stallion”. He was a social butterfly, always on the phone catching up with someone, and was well-known for his annual birthday phone calls, where he’d immediately sing Happy Birthday to you.
Jimmy was incredibly proud to have lived 69 years with Type 1 Diabetes, facing every challenge with strength, sentimentality, and honesty. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Jimmy was a proud husband, father, and Papa. He leaves behind his loving wife, Annette Callor; his children, Victoria (Rick) Callor, Janeyl Breinholt, Janette (Randal) Lancaster, Rebekah (Jason) Grow, Mariah (Bill) Oliveira, and Mekette (Daniel) Callor; as well as his grandchildren, Dominic (Amber) Lancaster, Nickolas (Zabrinea) Lancaster, Aajah (Nic) Armstrong, Jordan Oliveira, Ariella Cigman Callor, Hunter Oliveira, Mira Cigman Callor, Jaymee Grow, Ashley Grow, and Ellie Grow.
