On Thursday evening, the Lady Panthers were at home to close the regular season against Monticello. The Buckaroo started slow but used a big fourth quarter to win the contest, handing Pinnacle a 35-27 loss.
The loss dropped the Lady Panthers to an 8-15 regular season record and landed them in the No. 17 spot in the latest RPI.
The first half was very slow-paced, as neither team asserted itself. The Buckaroo scored just a pair of points, and the Pirates doubled their score to take a 4-2 lead at the end of one. The second period was the opposite. Monticello found some offense, scoring eight and holding Green River to four, as the Buckaroo carried a 10-8 lead into the half.
In the third, the Lady Panthers jumped out, putting 14 on the board and using their defense to hold Monticello to seven, allowing Pinnacle to take the lead into the fourth, 22-17. The Buckaroo returned fast and furious in the final eight minutes, outpacing the Lady Panthers 18-5 in the quarter, taking the 35-27 win.
Heather Kerr scored 13 in the contest. Jostyn McLean added seven, and Acacia McLean had four in the loss.
With the No. 17 spot comes a road play-in game on Saturday against the team they just lost to, the Monticello Buckaroo (4-18, No. 16). This will be the third time these teams will connect this season; the Buckaroo won both previous meetings.
The game is set for 1:00 on Saturday.
