Valdon Dee Jensen passed away on the evening of February 15, 2025. Val was born in Cleveland, Utah on September 15, 1934, to Darwin Oliver Jensen and Agnes McArthur Jensen. He grew up on the family farm in Cleveland. Val learned to play the accordion at age 15. He played in a band for some of his high school dances. He has played music in a band for 70 plus years. He married the love of his life, Monna Huntington, on July 15, 1953, in the Manti Utah Temple. July 15th is also Monna’s birthday. She made it easy for Dad by giving him one day to have to remember.
Val and Monna made their home in Huntington, Utah for nearly 70 years. Val was well known in Emery County and most of Carbon County due to his ownership of the farm machinery business in Huntington and that he taught accordion and guitar lessons for several years. His business started out with Case tractors and machinery- then moved into John Deere and New Holland. After 11 or so years in the farm machinery business, he moved into the trucking business. This was due to economic changes in the area. He operated his trucking business for several years with his sons and primarily with his buddy Lane. (Lane started trucking with Dad when he was two years old). In his later years, he went to work for the College of Eastern Utah where he developed the curriculum for their Truck Driving School and was the head instructor there for several years. Heavy-equipment operation was also added while he was there. While at CEU, he still managed his own small truck fleet.
Val was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings throughout his life. His favorite calling was probably Sunday School Superintendent. His most challenging calling was that of Ward Mission Leader. He spent countless hours going teaching with the young Elder Missionaries. On one occasion, he and a young Elder were driving home from Elmo, Utah in the dark. A Black Angus cow came up on the road in front of them. Because they couldn’t see the black cow until they were very close, they hit it. The cow came over the hood and shattered the windshield. They were both ok, other than the young Elder getting the fright of his life.
Val is survived by his wife, Monna Huntington Jensen; their 6 sons and their spouses, 61 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Val & Monna’s sons and their spouses are Chris and Bonnie Jensen, David and Patty Jensen, Scott and Gaedene Jensen, Calvin and Kim Jensen, Paul and Tanya Jensen, and Lane and Lilly Jensen.
Funeral services will be held at Miller’s Landing-Mitchell Funeral Home (123 N Main St. Huntington, Utah) on Thursday February 20th at 12:30 p.m. where the family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Cleveland Town Cemetery.
