Ila Elaine Krueger Cammack was born on October 12, 1936, the daughter of Herman Walter Krueger and Josephine Rachel Norton. She passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, at her home in Clawson, Utah.
Our Mom started out life on her parents’ farm “behind the Gap” in the Garden Creek area in Idaho. The family later moved to Robin, Idaho. She told us stories about attending grade school in a two-room schoolhouse, frequently riding her horse to and from school, riding her dad’s work horse and cows in the barnyard from the time she could walk, and later competing in rodeos with her beloved horse, Zephyr, on a silver-studded saddle loaned by a family friend. She developed a love for animals, particularly Arabian horses, and dogs of all sorts. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang with the local Sweet Adelines and with her father and sister-in-law, Rhonda, at various functions in the community. She was accomplished in needlepoint and created many beautiful pieces that she shared with family and friends. Above all, she was and always remained a plain-spoken country girl.
Elaine married her high school sweetheart, DelMar Cammack, on July 28,1955, in McCammon, Idaho. They were sealed together the following day in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They are the parents of Shane (Kimberly) Cammack, Heidi Leithead Villa, and Troy (Roberta) Cammack.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, DelMar; brother, Jack Hatley; son-in-law, Steven Leithead; and granddaughter, Cassandra. She is survived by her three children; and two granddaughters, Lindsay (Jimmy) and Miranda.
Mom remained strong-willed and independent to the end but greatly appreciated the friendship and help of many who assisted her in the years since our father’s passing. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Doug and Cheryl Sorensen and TedAnn and Bruce Funk, and all the other thoughtful friends and family who helped care for Mom as she faced the challenges of advancing years.
Mom will be laid to rest in the Norton Cemetery in McCammon, Idaho, next to her husband and parents. At her insistence, there will be no funeral. We will hold graveside services on March 10, 2025, at noon. All are invited who wish to attend.
It is a time to rejoice as Mom reunites with family and friends beyond the veil. We love you, Mom.
