Spartan baseball had to play a doubleheader with Canyon View on Wednesday after inclement weather hit the state on Tuesday. In both games, Emery struggled offensively, taking two losses by the scores of 5-3 and 14-2.

The Spartans were set to welcome the Falcons on Tuesday and then turn around and travel to Cedar City on Wednesday, but the weather forced the two teams to play a doubleheader in Castle Dale instead.

The opening contest was close, but the Spartans still came up on the short end of the 5-3 score.

Canyon View scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Falcons held the Spartans off the scoreboard until the seventh, but the Emery rally fell short when they could only plate three runs in their last at-bat.

Hayden Christiansen went 1-4 with a pair of RBIs. Bronx Olsen was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Beau Stilson was 1-3 and scored one run.

Trevin Gilbert got the start and took the loss on the mound, surrendering five runs, one earned on seven hits, and struck out one. Hayden Abrams had time on the mound and had five strikeouts in the loss.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Canyon View started quietly for both teams, but the Falcons came on strong in the later innings, and they closed out the Spartans in six, 14-2.

At the end of one inning, both teams were tied at 1-1; the Falcons came out in the second to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, with the score 7-1, the Spartans added another run, which was as close as they would get. Canyon View would close them out by adding seven more runs in the fifth and sixth to end the game in six innings, 14-2.

Hayden Abrams and Trygg Jensen each went 2-3 at the plate. Tyce Larsen and Bronx Olsen had an RBI, and Christiansen and Stilson scored two runs in the contest.

Conover got the start on the mound and took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned on two hits, and struck out two. Christiansen came in during the third inning and gave up six runs, four earned, on five hits and struck out one. Jace Frandsen came in for the fifth inning, going the rest of the way, and surrendered four runs, three earned on three hits.

The Spartans will head to St. George on Thursday for tournament play, starting with a game against Pineview.
