The yearly Sportsmen Fish and Wildlife banquet is rapidly approaching as outdoorsmen from across the Castle Country prepare to gather to celebrate another successful year of habitat protection and hunting. Shayne Thompson from the organization joined Castle Country Radio to discuss the finer details of the March 29 gathering.
“We basically focus on all wildlife, not just one species, fish and wildlife,” explained Thompson of the organization.” And we enhance quality management areas and habitat and keep the tradition going for the families at all levels.”
Speaking about the event, Thompson spoke about the wide variety of hunting permits that will be auctioned at the banquet: ” We have several throughout the state, and guys will be able to bid on those. And we create a lot of funding for habitat, and it goes right back to the ground for everyone to enjoy. So we have a variety of tags there.”
These permits include bull elk, bear, deer, turkey and pronghorn.
Also featured at the banquet will be the organization’s 10 gun giveaway, which Thompson spoke excitedly about,” we give away a tremendous amount every year at this banquet. We’ve been doing this for a long time.” He added,” We have several banquets, and then you can buy tickets to win them. And we’ll draw that later on in the year toward the end of our banquet season. So just another opportunity to win a really, really nice gun.”
As with any fundraiser, several tiers of ticket packages are available, ranging from the $1975 executive table package to the $125 dinner package. Regardless of the ticket you purchase, each comes with access to the banquet and dinner, “you get dinner, which is always catered by San Rafael Works. They put us a good meal on and always have.”
These tickets can be purchased at SFW.net.
Providing words of encouragement to attend the event, Thompson shared,” It’s just a good event. It’s fun. We include all the ladies. They have their own auctions and drawings and games. We also do a couple of games and auctions for the youth. We try to include everyone. And in this rural area, of course, we always have a lot of people who love the outdoors and getting involved in wildlife. And I encourage people to do that for sure.”
In closing, Thompson stated,” Just try to get involved and come out and support us. There is limited space there and meals. So get a hold of us so we can plan for it and get our meals set up. Get all of us as soon as you can if you’re interested in coming. And if you’ve never been, talk to somebody who’s been.”
The Sportsmen Fish and Wildlife banquet will be held on Saturday, March 29, at the Carbon County Event Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. More information can be found online here.
