Emery Spartan Soccer welcomed the Grand County Red Devils to Castle Dale on Tuesday for non-region action. Grand entered the contest with a 7-2 overall record and first place in the 2A Southern Region at 4-1. Emery found the back of the net once, but Grand would win the contest 2-1.
Emery is 1-10 this season and still searching for its first region win. On Friday, the Utah High School Activities Association will release its initial RPI, telling the Spartans how they stack up with the rest of 3A.
Grand was able to put one between the pipes once in the first half and would keep Emery off the scoreboard headed into halftime. In the second half, both teams found offense, and Grand would add another to their score, and the Spartans’ Ryker Sermon added a goal to cut the Red Devil lead in half, but the final score would stay that way, and Emery fell 2-1.
Emery will return on the pitch on Wednesday in a region contest with North Sanpete. They will travel to Mount Pleasant to face the Hawks, and then on Friday, they will be on the road again to face the Delta Rabbits.
