
Emery baseball was on the diamond on Wednesday when it welcomed the Judge Memorial Bulldogs to Castle Dale for a non-region tilt. The Spartans collected 12 hits and used them to win 17-1 in front of the home crowd.
The Spartans are 4-10 overall and 0-4 in Region 12. On Monday, the Utah High School Activities Association released the RPI rankings for baseball, and Emery was in the No. 13 spot to start the season. After the win over Judge Memorial, they jumped to No. 10.
Judge Memorial scored their only run in the top of the first, and then Emery took over.
Emery added eight runs in the bottom of the inning. With the score 4-1, Brek Griffin scored on a passed ball with Garrett Conover at bat, who would ground out, and Beau Stilson scored to make the score 6-1.
In the fourth, Hayden Abrams would start with an inside-the-park home run, pushing the score to 10-1. Stilson doubled to left, bringing in Ben Johansen. Brox Olsen was hit by a pitch in his at-bat to load the bases for Conover, who would knock a line drive to left, bringing home Trevin Gilbert and Stilson to push the score to 13-1. Then, with the score 15-1 with two outs, Tyce Larsen stepped in, hitting a double to left to bring home Mason Thornley and Hayden Christiansen, getting the score to 17-1, giving the Spartans the win.
Larsen went 4-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored for Emery. Stilson was 3-3 with three RBIS and scored two runs. Abrams scored 1-4 with a pair of RBIs and runs, and Conover was 1-3 with three RBIs and a run scored in the win.
Gilbert got the start on the mound and the win, going 3.0 innings with one run on three hits and striking out four. Christiansen came in and surrendered one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
Emery returns to the field on Tuesday when they welcome the Manti Templars to Castle Dale. Last season, the Spartans won both contests against the Templars.
