On Saturday, the Utah High School Activities Association released its initial RPI for boys’ volleyball. The Carbon Dino squad ranked No.6.
The Ogden Tigers, with a 9-4 record, lead the 3A rankings; Morgan is No.2. Salt Lake Academy, North Sanpete, and Juab round out the top five. Carbon landed in sixth with a 7-5 mark.
Carbon’s remaining schedule includes 11 games, five against teams in the top 10.
The Dinos return to the court on Tuesday following the Spring Break holiday when they welcome Wasatch Academy to Price. Then, on Friday, they head to a tournament over the weekend, where they will play five teams in two days. The season closes on April 29, and then the next day, the final RPI and bracket for the 3A State Championships will be released. The tournament begins on May 3 at home sites and concludes at Utah Valley University on May 7 & 8.
The UHSAA adopted the RPI format in 2019 to rank teams throughout the season. This format is then used for seeding in the season-ending State Playoff Championships.
Rankings will be updated after each regular-season game leading up to the final week of region play.
Three statistical categories determine the RPI standings:
*MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the total available points from games played, accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
*OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponent.
*OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage): Same process as OWP, except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.
