Runs were hard to come by for the Carbon Dino baseball team on Friday in Cedar City, when they faced the No. 1 Canyon View Falcons. Coming off a loss earlier in the week, the Dinos were looking for a split of the season series, but it was not to be as they fell to the Falcons 10-0 in five innings.

Last Tuesday, the Falcons were in Price to face the Dinos, with Canyon View winning 2-0. Carbon slid to 6-11 overall and 4-4 in Region 12 play. They also hold the No. 12 spot in the RPI rankings. The Falcons sit atop 3A at No. 1.

Carbon could only manage three hits as the Falcons’ Zach Maine threw just 41 pitches across five shutout innings. Canyon View scattered 10 runs throughout the game using a four-run third to put things out of reach, going up 6-0, then would add four more in the final two innings to close out the Dinos.

Rydge Butler was 1-1 for Carbon. Paxton Falk and Logan Madrigal each went 1-2 in the loss.

Falk got the start on the mound, going 3.2 innings, giving up nine runs, six earned, on 12 hits and striking out two. Maddex Willson would also put in some work, finishing the contest with one earned run on three hits and striking out one.

Next week’s opponent will be the No. 5 Manti Templars.

Carbon will travel to Manti on Tuesday to face the Templars and close out the series on Friday in Price.
