Emery baseball was on the road in Manti Friday to face the Templars. On Tuesday, the two teams met in Castle Dale, with the Templars taking the win. On Friday, the Spartans split the season series, taking an 11-4 win and earning their first Region 12 win.

Emery is 5-11 overall and 1-5 in region play. With eight games left, it holds the No.10 spot in the RPI.

The Spartans took control in the first inning, adding five runs, starting with a Hayden Abrams double to center that drove in Beau Stilson. Tyce Larsen stepped into the box next and sent a line drive to short, which gave Hayden Christiansen time to score from third to put the score at 2-0. During Mason Thornley’s at bat, the Spartans pulled off a double steal as Larsen stole second and Abrams scored on a steal of home. Later in the inning, Larsen scored on an error by the shortstop, and then one batter later, Trygg Jensen drove one to left field, bringing Jace Frandsen home to put the score at 5-0.

Emery held Manti off the board until the bottom of the fourth, when they cut the Spartan lead in half at 6-3. Then Emery would put together another really in the sixth. With the score 8-3, Trevin Gilbert came to the plate and sent a line drive grounder to left that drove in Christiansen and Abrams to get the Spartan lead to seven, 10-3. Emery added one more in the seventh and closed out the Templars in the bottom of the inning to take the 11-4 win.

Abrams had a day going 4-5 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Spartans. Trevin Gilbert went 3-4 with a pair of RBIs, and Easton Stoker was 3-3 with two RBIs in the win.

Gilbert got the start on the mound, going four innings and giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits and striking out one.  Garrett Conover closed the game with three innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and striking out three.

Next, the Spartans will play two games against the North Sanpete Hawks (7-8, No. 9). They will start on Tuesday with a home game in Castle Dale and travel to Mount Pleasant on Friday to close out the season series.

The first pitch on Tuesday is set to be thrown at 3:00 p.m..
