Carbon High School football coach Bradon Rushton has resigned after leading the program for one season, it was announced Monday morning by athletic director Ted Bianco.

“We’d like to thank Coach Rushton for his hard work and the efforts that he put into our program,” said Bianco. “I feel like he did a great job during his one year here, trying to change the culture and getting the kids out to play. We understand life changes require you to move in another direction, so we wish him nothing but the best.”

Rushton took over the program after former head coach Phil Howa resigned following the 2023 season. With five years of experience as an assistant, the 2024 season was his first as a head coach.

Carbon’s season started with plenty of promise. The team defeated American Leadership on the road 41-40, scoring a touchdown on the game’s final play. The team moved to 2-0 with a 33-26 win over Moab.

The Dinos blasted through the Union Cougars 34-7 on Sept. 6, moving to 3-1 on the season, giving the program its best four-game start since 2014.

Rushton and the Dinos wrapped up the 2024 season with a loss to the Juan Diego Soarin’ Eagle in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament on Oct. 25. The loss gave Carbon a final record of 3-8.

Carbon High School will immediately seek to fill the head coaching vacancy. The job will soon be officially posted on the Carbon County School District’s website.
