Carbon track and field welcomed schools throughout the region to the Eastern Utah Championships on Friday. Fifteen schools participated in the boys and girls divisions, and Carbon earned second-place finishes in both.

Union claimed the top spot in the boys’ division, scoring 171 points, and Carbon was in second with 128. Uintah (96.5), San Juan (60.5), and Milford (27) rounded out the top five.

Kayden Vasquez earned first place in the 100 meters with his time of 11.29. Bradley Sweeney had a successful day in both hurdle competitions. In the 300-meter hurdles, he finished second, followed by Carter Branch, and in the 110-meter hurdles, he finished third, followed by Riley Palmer in fourth.

In distances, Maxwell Carlson claimed first with a time of 51.66. Michael Weber took fifth in the 800, and Dallin Humes went fifth in the 1600.

The Carbon boys’ team competed in three relays and claimed one first-place finish and two second-place finishes. In the 4×400, Humes, Sweeney, Carlson, and Andrew Loveless crossed the finish in first with their time of 3:39.18.  Dexter Packard, Vasquez, Deagan Richards, and Benjamin Simms took second in the 4×100, and then in the sprint medley relay, Simms, Tanner Harker, Carlson, and Weber ran to a second-place finish as well.

Traxton Jewkes earned a second-place finish in the high jump, followed by Branch in third. Stetson Holden finished fifth in the discus. In the long jump, Packard took third.

Union also earned first place for the girls, scoring 172 points, with Carbon finishing in second at 108.5. Uintah (72), Monticello (48), and Grand (47.5) made up the top five.

The Lady Dinos were all about distances and relays at the event. Gianna White got things started in the 400 with her time of 1:00.51, Emma Bowman finished in second and Elsie Morley came in fifth. In the 800, Roz Stowe took first in her time of 2:17.01, she would finish in second in the 1600, and a third in the 3200. Rebecca Swasey, Elsie Morley, Bowman and White finished first in the 4×400 turning in a time of 4:15.30. Ivy Beecher, Malia Smith, Brooklyn Lowe and Bowman took second in the 4×100, and in the sprint medley relay, Lowe, Smith , White, and Stowe earned a second-place finish as well.

In individual events, Lowe finished fourth in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200. Josie Jespersen claimed a fifth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.

In field events, Rebecca Swasey finished fourth in the javelin while McKinlie Sharp took fifth in the long jump and Emily Dufour finished fifth in the high jump.

This Saturday, Carbon travels to Delta for the Delta Signiture Real Estate Invitational.
