Deputy Egan Smith and K-9 Deputy Dak have struck again. Opening the weekend with an Easter Egg Hunt, the duo quickly returned to the streets for a different hunt. This hunt helped Smith and Dak capture 107 pounds of methamphetamine and three kilos of white powder during a traffic stop.
“While out with a vehicle, Dak gave a positive indication and Deputy Smith began a vehicle search shortly thereafter. During the search, 107 pounds of methamphetamine was located and three kilos of a white-colored powder. We suspect the powder to be either cocaine or fentanyl,” reads a statement from Emery County Sheriff Tyson Huntington.
Due to the nature of the white powder and the danger accidental exposure poses to officers, the substance was not tested in the field.
Deputies Dak and Smith have quickly become one of the most potent drug-capturing agents of Emery County. In a recent meeting of the Emery County Commissioners, Sheriff Huntington sang the praise of the duo,” Deputy Smith has become so good at drug interdiction that the changes in the behavior of suspects are what perks up his ‘spidey sense’ so to speak. You notice a guy in a new Dodge pickup cruising down the road, and when he sees the deputies, he changes his behavior just enough to capture Egan’s (Smith) attention.”
The statement closes,” Great job guys! Keep up the good work.”
