The Emery Spartans and 14 other schools participated in the Eastern Utah Championships on Friday, which Carbon High hosted. The Lady Spartans finished the one-day event in seventh place, while the boys placed ninth.

Union claimed the top spot in the boys’ division, scoring 171 points, and Carbon was in second with 128. Uintah (96.5), San Juan (60.5), and Milford (27) rounded out the top five. Emery finished the day in ninth with 17 points.

The Emery boys participated in just one relay. The 4×100 team of Jacob Morris, Brekker Bunnell, Tage Jensen, and Hunter Leffler finished fifth.

Denvon Byars finished third in the discus at 127 feet, 4.75 inches, and Trek Petersen with his jump of five feet seven inches.

Union also earned first place for the girls, scoring 172 points, with Carbon finishing in second at 108.5. Uintah (72), Monticello (48), and Grand (47.5) made up the top five. The Lady Spartans took seventh with 41 points.

The team of Gentry Christiansen, Skylee Guymon, Kabree Gordon, and Addy Guymon earned a first-place finish with 4:10.02 in the sprint medley relay. Gordon also finished third in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 200. Addie Hirst took fifth in the 1600.

In field events, Dazi Thatcher finished third in the shot put with her throw of 30 feet, 8.5 inches. Hallie Frandsen took fourth in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.

Emery will compete again this Saturday when they participate in the  Tiger Trials at Orem High School.
