Carbon Dino boys’ volleyball welcomed the American Heritage Patriots on Monday night. The season will close next week, and Carbon can always improve its standing in the RPI, but it fell just short to the Patriots, 3-1.

Carbon is sitting at 14-8 overall and holds the No. 6 spot in the latest RPI, but wins in their final two matches, vs. Juab No.4 and at North Sanpete No.5, could allow them to improve that mark.

Set number one was a good indicator of what would come the rest of the match, as both teams fought it out with the Patriots taking a 25-21 win. In set two, the Dinos came back to even up the match 25-23. Set three was a battle going down to the wire, but Carbon came up short, 26-24. In the fourth and what would be the final set, the Dinos just came apart and had trouble finding the offense to overcome American Heritage, falling 25-14.

Carter Warburton collected 14 kills and 12 digs for Carbon. Charles Tima had 15 digs, 13 kills, and earned three service aces, and Grant Mathis had 21 assists and 12 digs in the loss.

Carbon will celebrate its seniors on Tuesday night at its final regular-season home game when it faces the Juab Wasps. On March 27, the Dinos earned a straight-set win over the Wasps in Nephi.

Game time is set for 6:30 p.m..
