On Wednesday, the Emery Spartan baseball squad stepped out of region play to take on the Spanish Fork Dons. The Spartans could not plate a run and collected just one hit in the 5-0 loss.

Emery slides to 6-13 overall and 2-6 in Region 12. They sit in the No. 12 spot of the latest RPI. Spanish Fork hails from 5A and sits in the No. 18 spot in the rankings.

Emery struggled at the plate in the game, primarily due to Spanish Fork’s Tilden Scott, who faced just 22 batters and surrendered one hit to Emery, a single to Trygg Jensen in the fourth.

Jace Frandsen got the start on the mound, going three innings and giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits and striking out three. Hayden Christiansen closed the game, surrendering two runs, one earned, on five hits and struck out two.

The Spartans will be busy as they head into the final week of the regular season with one more game against Richfield, a set of games against Delta and Carbon, and a makeup game with North Sanpete all on the schedule.

First up is a road game with the Richfield Wildcats on Friday.
