With summer rapidly approaching, so too does the Carbon County Fair. After a year that saw the event bigger and better than ever, the County aims to impress even more with this year’s rendition. Holding the theme ‘Coal Dust & Cowboy Boots,’ the event aims to connect all generations with new and old traditions.

Representing Carbon Events and Recreation, Kourtney Cox and Alex Peczuh joined the KOAL newsroom to give a sneak peek into what attendees can expect from the fair.

“We’re in crunch time again. We have six weeks until the county fair and we’re working hard,” said Cox. “Evening one is going to be Thursday, June 5; that’s when we’re gonna kick off the fair with our opening ceremonies. Natural Causes in concert and our annual cornhole tournament for the fair.”

Following the opening festivities, the fun doesn’t end,” Friday is gonna be our first full day. We’re gonna start at 10 a.m. And that’s when our vendor booths and food trucks are gonna be opening up,” shared Peczuh. “We’ll have the animal barn in the indoor arena. In the event center, we’re gonna have our open class exhibits, 4-H exhibits, the quilter show and kids corner. It’s gonna be first responder Friday, and then we’ll have the battle of the bands, burnout competition and the first night of the Black Diamond Rodeo.”

Cox spoke highly of the animal barn attraction: ” My mind was blown with the animal barn this last year. We brought on Kirk MacArthur, who is partnering with USU Extension and Steven Price to work on the animal barn, and they just blew it out of the water. I walked in there, and I think my jaw just dropped.”

Providing an update on the Black Diamond Rodeo, Cox shared,” We actually learned in the last couple of weeks that we’re going to be joined by some special guests at our rodeo, so two of our rodeo Queens are Janessa Sullivan, who is Miss Wilderness Circuit for the PRCA, and Miss Rodeo Utah Olivia Favero. They’re going to be joining us both nights of the rodeo, so that’s really exciting that we’re going to have them there.”

Looking to the fair’s final day, Peczuh stated,” We have our Coal Dust & Cowboy Boots 5k that will start at 7 a.m. at the Recreation Office, the Desert Wings RC air show and fun fly. We’ll have motocross, the car show, more vendor booths, the animal barn, and the Kids Corner going that day.”

Cox added,” We are bringing back old-fashioned contests. There’s pie-eating, hot dog eating; there’s gonna be a cutest baby contest, a cutest and ugliest pet contest, husband and wife calling, and then coal shoveling.”

Talking sponsors, Cox took the opportunity to spotlight some of the businesses that help make the fair possible. “We have to start with PATTS media and KARB Kickin’ Country, USU Eastern, rPlus Energies, Intermountain Electronics, Auto Farm and Blue Diamond GM, Wolverine Fuels, Carbon Corridor and Castle View Hospitals are our top sponsors this year, and we couldn’t do this without them.”

In closing, Cox said,” This is gonna be a great event. Make sure you show up and have a good time. Join the competitions, come listen to some great music and check out the rodeo at the end of the day. It’s gonna be an absolute blast.”

The Carbon County Fair will run from Thursday, June 5, to Saturday, June 7. A full schedule of events is available here.
