
The Carbon boys’ tennis team traveled to Vernal on Friday and Saturday for the Uintah Invitational. Six different schools participated in the tournament. Playing against five schools in two days, Carbon finished with a 1-4 record.
Carbon was coming off a 5-0 win over Union on Wednesday and would face them again in the tournament. This marked the final regular-season match for the Dinos, who will participate in the Region 12 Championships on April 30.
In the weekend’s first match, the Dinos faced the Morgan Trojans. In first singles, Nicholas Bryner earned Carbon’s only win over Treyson Ordyna, 9-8 (7-4). Alta was next, and Carbon suffered a 4-0 loss in matches with the Hawks. Carbon closed out day one with a 3-1 victory over Union. For Carbon, Memphis Howell earned a win over the Cougars’ Zayde Tanner 8-4. Josiah Trostle and Oliver Steele won over Kevin and Micah Winterton, 8-4. And in second doubles, Judson Varner and Sylvian Gurule claimed the win over Aston Bennett and James Potter.
Carbon started day two, taking on the Logan Grizzlies. Carbon was unable to collect a win across four matches. The Dinos would suffer the same fate in their final matches of the day, taking on the host Uintah Utes, and taking losses in all matches.
The Dinos will participate in the Region 12 Championships on April 30 in Mount Pleasant. The State Championship bracket will be released on May 1. The play-in round is set for Brighton High School on May 8, and the finals are slated to begin on May 9 at Liberty Park.
