Katelyn Nielson led the way for the Lady Spartans on Friday against region foe the Manti Templars on the road. Nielson went 4-4, including a home run, to help Emery earn the 7-1 win as the Lady Spartans’ regular season ends.

The Spartans are 17-11 overall and 12-2 in region play, which gives them the Region 12 Championship. The season comes to a close on Tuesday. Then, on Wednesday, the Utah High School Activities Association releases the final RPI and the bracket for the State Championships, which begin on May 3.

Nielson got it rolling early in the first inning with two outs and Morgan Tuttle on; She sent a double to center, driving in Tuttle, Nielson scored on an error by the third baseman. Nielson doubled in the top of the third, bringing TaiLynn Minchey in to put the score at 3-0.

Moving to the sixth inning with the score at 5-0, Aleeyah Cowley sent a double to center, bringing in Elly Stilson, and two batters later, Cowley scored on an error by the third baseman.

In the top of the seventh, Nielson came to the plate and sent one over the wall in center to give Emery the 7-1 win in their final regular season game.

Nielson was 4-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored for the Lady Spartans. Cowley went 2-3 with a run and an RBI, and Minchey was 1-3, scoring twice in the win.

Kallee Lake earned the complete game win with one run on four hits and striking out nine.

Emery will now wait for Wednesday’s final RPI and bracket release to determine who and when they will play.
