The Lady Spartan softball team learned their post-season fate Wednesday morning when the Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI and the bracket for the State Championships. Emery earned No. 4 in the rankings and will face the No.13 Canyon View Falcons in Castle Dale.
The Lady Spartans finished the season with a 17-11 overall mark and claimed the Region 12 crown with a 12-2 record. Emery and Canyon View split the season series, with each team winning on their home field.
On March 28 in Castle Dale, Emery came away with an 8-7 win as Kallee Lake was the hero, smashing a triple to right field to drive in Hadley Larsen and Hadley Grimm to take the 8-7 win.
Kali Jensen went 1-4 with a run scored, and Lake went 1-4 with a pair of RBIs. Morgan Tuttle was 1-2 with a run, and Katelyn Nielson was 1-3 with a run.
Rheagan Rhoten got the start, going 2.1 innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on four hits, striking out one. Lake closed the game, surrendered two runs on one hit, and struck out four.
Then rewind to last week, when the Lady Spartans traveled to Cedar City to take on the Falcons. Strangely enough, it was the same score with Canyon View coming out on top this time, 8-7 in eight innings.
The Lady Spartans led early in this one, going up 4-0 in the top of the third, but Canyon View came back to tie things up in the bottom of the inning. Emery would go up 7-5 by the top of the seventh, but the Falcons would come back and tie the game once again and then plate a run in the bottom of the eighth for the win.
Elli Stoker was 4-5 at the plate with an RBI for Emery. Jensen went 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored, and Aleeyah Cowley was 2-4 with an RBI and scored a run in the loss.
Lake went the full game, giving up seven runs, two earned, on seven hits, and struck out 10.
If Emery gets the win over Canyon View, they will face the winner of No. 5 South Summit and No.12 Ogden on May 8 in Spanish Fork.
