Our beloved Helen Pappas Segura joined her Lord and Savior peacefully and happily on May 5, 2025 surrounded by her family, Lisa (Bobby) and Bobbie from natural causes, in Price, Utah at the age of 92. She was born in Hiawatha, Utah (Carbon County) to Louis Pappas/Pappadakis and Emiliana “Mollie” Martinez Pappas on August 20, 1932.
Helen had a very happy childhood in Hiawatha Utah, a coal camp town, living in “Greek Town,” playing with her many friends of all nationalities. Growing up, she worked her first job at the King Coal Company Store, which she enjoyed very much. She was always proud of her Greek Heritage taught to her by her father and later her step-mother, Androniki Pappas/Papadaki. She was raised during the depression, not having a lot of possessions, but being raised nonetheless by a loving father who always baked the children fresh loaves of bread daily. They were one of the only families in Hiawatha who owned a bicycle, which they shared with all the other children in town!
When Helen was a teenager she wished for a camera, which was rare in those times and she captured many family photos, some of the only pictures the family ever had. Her father also bought a car, also rare at that time, so they could drive to Price to attend The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
Helen attended grade school in Hiawatha and high school at Carbon High/Carbon College in Price, Utah graduating in May of 1950.
While in Hiawatha, she was the third of five siblings when tragedy struck her young family with her brother Anthony being killed in Combat during WWII. Her mother eventually took ill and her and her father refused to split up the children, raising them together while he worked for the King Koal Mining Company in Hiawatha.
When Helen was 18, she took a job at Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Salt Lake City and Price, UT eventually retiring with 28 years in 1980. Also, during this time, she married the love of her life, Frank Segura, Jr., who worked for Mt. Fuel Supply Company and they had one princess daughter Lisa, whom they both adored. They also adored their son-in-law, Bobby Peirce; and granddaughter, Bobbie. Sadly, Frank passed away before he saw Bobbie raised, never meeting his grandchildren that he so greatly anticipated. Helen widowed young and never married again. “Because I was married to the best.”
She lived for her family, her granddaughter, and great-grandchildren loving them fiercely and unconditionally: Chandler, Burcklee and Brayton. She supported them at every ball game, sports event, dance recital, play, pageant, school event, and birthday party; always showering them with all the love and support in the world.
Helen was a very positive person never complaining of the challenges with her declining eyesight or her severe injuries. Beating the odds to walk again- three times! In her late 80s and early 90s!!
One of her happiest days was when her daughter surprised her with an 80th Big Fat Greek Birthday Party. Family and friends traveled from eight states, which she never forgot and was so humbled they came to celebrate with her.
Even though Frank was taken by cancer from Helen at a young age, they lived a short but full life time together camping, waterskiing, traveling, coaching baseball, rodeoing, organizing International Days, The Demolition Derby, and horsing around and ropin’ with their studs, Lucky and Diamond – even winning a state roping championship!
Helen mostly lived a very happy life due to her positive outlook- always trying to be the matriarch and making the best of any tragic or difficult ball that life threw at her, knowing God was truly in control and her source of joy. She was dearly and endlessly loved by her immediate family who will infinitely love and miss her. She was generous to a T, never wanting anyone to go without, and the Lord always blessed her back.
She is survived by her only child and her husband, Lisa Pappas-Segura Peirce and Bobby Peirce; granddaughter, Bobbie Brady; great-grandchildren, Chandler Kinsinger, Burcklee and Brayton Brady; adopted-son, Andre’ Lynch, NM; siblings, Toni (Steve) Young, SLC; Johnny (Jill) Pappas, Wellington. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Abbie Segura, AZ; Florece Pierce, NM, and many nieces, nephews, and a community of friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-mother, brothers, Anthony, Ferron and Anna Louise Pappas, George Pappas, Tony (Nina) Pappas; sister, Mello and Steve Pazell, Salt Lake City; and in-laws, Mary and Juan Segura, NM.
